Switzerland’s oldest city?
Chur is sometimes called the oldest city in Switzerland. Is this correct? Around 10,000 BC there was no longer any ice in the Rhine valley. Nomadic hunters roamed the regions and used the hill near today’s Marsöl as a camp site.Image: Archaeological Office Graubünden

Amongst other things tools made of silex and Alpine crystal were found, proof of the occasional presence of the first humans in Chur (still far from being a city). It is only since Roman times that Chur can be shown to have existed as a larger settlement.Photo: Archaeological Office Graubünden
