«Maximilian» Armour

Lucerne, around 1525

In a historical museum there definitely has to be an armour. This was also the opinion of those who were responsible for the collection at the time. However, acquisition of the sought-after object proved difficult because in Graubünden hardly any armours had survived. For this reason they looked outside the canton and finally found an object in a Lucerne private collection. This complete «Maximilian» armour cost a total of 1500 francs, an enormously high price at the time.

The fluted surface of this early-modern armour offered greater protection against the bullets of the firearms coming into use at the time.
