An object from China at the Raetian Museum? At the time of the foundation, collection activity was not yet limited to cultural objects from Graubünden. That is why the museum also has an ethnographic collection with objects from all over the world.

This sword-shaped good-luck charm is put together with coins from the Qing-Dynasty. Such swords were supposed to ward off evil spirits and were often handed over as wedding presents. Later western travellers liked to acquire them as souvenirs. It was donated to the museum by the Magdeburg confectioner’s son Conradin Josty (1808-1887).
