Sword Blade, found 1899 during construction of the railway line between Landquart and Klosters
Malans, 14th century
That archaeological objects are unexpectedly unearthed during construction works happens quite frequently. This was also the case on the construction site for the first Rhaetian Railway line: Workers came across a corroded, late medieval sword blade with a pommel. The cantonal government requested that the Railway’s management send the rare find to the Raetian Museum.
The discovery site, located between the only bridges over the Rhine and the Landquart for miles around, used to be of high strategic importance. For this reason, this was also the exact spot where the «Rohan entrenchment» was built during the time of the «Graubünden disturbances».
