Breil/Brigels, 17^th Century

This chasuble from the Sogn Bistgaun church in Dardin has the shape of a bass violin typical of the 17^th century. During worship service the priest stood with his back to the congregation, which is why the back of a chasuble is more richly decorated. In the middle it shows the Holy Trinity – the dove of the Holy Spirit, God the Father and Jesus – and on both sides Mary and Joseph.

The ground of our chasuble is plain linen fabric. With its silk embroideries, golden threads and sequins, however, it nevertheless fulfilled the requirements for performing representative duties. The chasuble’s embroidery is subsumed under the term «Tyrol Embroidery» and was made in the convent of Müstair.
