Bottle of Mineral Water
Sent, around 1950
Since the 15th century, people travelled to the mountains of Graubünden to treat their illnesses with healing waters. In the Val Sinestra near Sent, the Ulrich spring can be found, which was once used for bathing and drinking cures. Its «hard water», the arsenical «Eisensäuerling» [carbonated mineral water containing iron], was considered an effective remedy for nervous diseases, anaemia, skin diseases or rheumatism.
From 1904 onwards, the healing waters were bottled and successfully sold. In 1912, the Kurhaus Val Sinestra, built in Art Nouveau style, was opened. However, the spa house ceased operations in 1972 after a landslide destroyed the pump room. Ever since the orange water flows into the brook unused.
