Macramé-Collection of the Sisters Teodora Maddalena and Anna Cornelia Maurizio
Vicosoprano, 1881‒1904
In the summer of 1935 a massive walnut chest arrived at the Raetian Museum. It contained a sample collection, unique in its kind, of Macramé-Lace. It had been created by the sisters Anna Cornelia and Teodora Maddalena Maurizio. The two daughters of a Graubünden coffee house entrepreneur in Bergamo had travelled throughout Europe in order to collect the lace samples.
In the Bergell as well as in their second home in Italy they trained women in macramé-techniques. Their entire collection together with knotting instructions written by them can be downloaded from the online-catalogue of the Raetian Museum.
