St. Antönien, about 1850

In the workshop of the family Lötscher in the mountain village of St. Antönien five potters produced «Lötscher Ceramics» during four generations until 1898. For Graubünden this was the most important pottery business in the modern era. In the collection there are almost 700 objects from the manufacture Lötscher.

This inkwell painted and carved with flowers and rosettes has a tray for the quill and cut-outs for the inkpot and the sand caster. It comes from Christian Lötscher. He ran the business in third generation and was the most talented and successful potter of the family.
