Sketchbook of the Raetian Museum’s Bronze Age Objects, Illustrated by Dietrich Jecklin (1833‒1891)

Chur, 1870–1891

With great precision Dietrich Jecklin made ink drawings of the Museum’s objects. For years he had already studied Graubünden history, ethnology and especially castles. Privately, however, he got into financial difficulties and was placed under guardianship. 1886 he had to take on the job as caretaker in the Raetian Museum, where his younger brother Fritz (1863–1927) acted as curator.

His drawings are testimony of the first attempt at cataloguing the collection. Jecklin thus supported his bother who, by order of the government, was the first to create a catalogue of the entire inventory.
